Did you know that saving money is like planning for a vacation? It helps to have a road map in order to get to your final destination.
First you have to know what you want to save for. That would be called your goal.
Whether it is for a new CD, new clothes, bike or a computer, you need to know how much it is going to cost to purchase or how much money you want to save.
Second, where are you going to get the money?
Some ways of making money is your allowance for doing chores around the house. Other ways are doing odd jobs for neighbours, babysitting, grass cutting, shoveling snow, walking dogs or possibly a paper route. Many times in school there are competitions such as public speaking, spelling bees where they give awards for the best participants. Maybe Mom, Dad or Grandparents have a dollar incentive for higher grades.
Third, how long will it take for you to save for what you want?
Depending on where the money is coming from and how often, will determine how long it will take for you to save for your goal.
Fourth, is it realistic?
You need to be sure that how much and for how long you will need to save for is achievable.
Fifth, are you on the right track?
You have to check from time to time if you are on the right
path; just like you would check a map to see if you are moving
in the right direction. You might need to re-adjust the plan
from time to time if the savings aren't happening as quickly
as first thought.
Sixth, finally achieving your goal! You have arrived at your destination!
You have achieved your goal of what you set out to do. It's
good to know that as long as you plan, are realistic, work
towards achieving the plan and check to see that you're on
the right path, you will enjoy success. |
