With over 31 years of credit union and co-operative experience
Marty Gillis has been instrumental in making Windsor Family Credit
Union (WFCU) a strong, successful co-operative community-focused
financial institution.
Marty has a rich experience in governance, at the credit union
and also through 22 years of involvement with a minor hockey association.
With 11 years on the Executive and six years as President, Marty
has been Chair of WFCU since 1991.
In the early years of his credit union involvement, until 1990,
much time was spent structuring and negotiating mergers, acquisitions
and strategic alliances which have allowed for the expansion of
services for the members of WFCU. During this time Marty was active
in the successful negotiation of 14 credit union mergers and has
gained much experience in managing change as well as the development
of credit union policies for human resources, salaries, benefit
and pension plans, and corporate governance.
The past 15 years as WFCU focused on continued organic growth
Marty pursued strategic alliances with many financial service
organizations to deliver greater value and superior service to
WFCU members.
Marty is a lifetime member of the Ontario Credit Union Charitable
Foundation and a participant in the Canadian Co-operative Association's
leadership program. He is a graduate of the Credit Union Directors
Achievement Program, has an education in Credit Union Advanced
Leadership and has the distinction of having received the designation
of Certified Credit Union Director.
In April 2007, Marty was elected to Credit Union Central of Ontario's
(Central's) Board of Directors. As a newly elected Board member
to Central's Board of Directors, Marty will be actively involved
in the issuing of policies and the monitoring of credit union
policies as well as ensuring that Central maintains its commitment
to its mission and vision for Central and the credit union system.
Retiring in December 2007, Marty has worked in the automotive
industry as a skilled tradesman for over 40 years. A native
of Cape Breton , Nova Scotia , Marty and his wife Marguerite have
lived in Windsor for 43 years where they have raised their five
children and enjoy spending time with their grandchild.
